Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Would not go back and would not recommendWe couldn't get any rooms in the city center due to the New Year holiday weekend, so we ended up here. 1) Location Starinn 101 is a short 10-minute walk from the railway station but a 6 to 7 kilometer distance from Taitung city center. If you don't have your own form of transportation or you want to be near the city center, this place is not a good choice. Furthermore, the area doesn't seem to have many restaurants or food outlets. Maybe this is why Starinn 101 provided information on food delivery services available by some food providers. 2) Transportation Since Starinn 101 is just a short distance away from the railway station, no pickup or dropoff services is provided or required. Unlike other B&B's/homestays outside of city center we stayed in other parts of Taiwan which provided some form of transportation services by the friendly proprietors for our dining conveniece, Starinn 101 doesn't provide any at all. In fact, the proprietor doesn't seem to be concern about our welfare even though she knew we were from a foreign country without our own private transportation. 3) Orientation & Recommendations After a quick and simple check-in process where the proprietor briefed us on the main door, keys, and breakfast hours, she retreated to her sofa watching her entertainment on her iPad. No information about the surrounding was provided like in other B&B's/homestays. No maps of attractions, restaurants, or any other information was provided unless we specifically asked for them. The whole time we were there, the proprietor just kept to herself with her iPad. 4) Breakfast Breakfast is included and self-service with breads made from a breadmaker machine, rice porridge with sides dishes, coffee & tea. Nothing special here as we had better homemade rice porridge in other B&B's/homestays. 5) Rooms and Facilities The rooms have different layouts and are clean and spacious as this was originally a residential house. Actually, Starinn 101 is two residential houses joined as one where the middle partitional was knocked down to connect the halls of two houses. The breakfast area and the living room area are together on one side of the connected halls while the proprietor's own living room, dining room, and kitchen are on the other side. Make sure you time your breakfast well, so you get a place to sit as there are not many tables and chairs for the number of rooms they have. The bathroom has a shower stall, so the toilet and sink side stays dry. Hot water and water pressure are just adequate. Hair dryers and disposable toiletries are provided. We didn't use the air-conditioner as the weather was cold during our stay. It would have been nice to have a heater but the comforters are very thick which kept us warm. There is no elevator/lift in this house, so ask for a lower floor if you have heavy bags. 6) How We Felt During Our Stay Since the proprietor kept to herself with her iPad during our stay, we felt like we were in a downtown motel, rather than in a B&B/homestay in Taiwan where hospitality is well-known. We got the feeling the proprietor was just simply running a business without being interested in interacting with people and most importantly, without even remotely interested if her customers enjoy themselves in Taitung. Since the check-out time is officially at 11am, we certainly didn't appreciate being TOLD by the staff to bring our bags out of the room at 10am. The attitude was more like chasing out as if we were staying there without paying for the room. The proprietor and her staff were just concern about getting the occupants out of the rooms as soon as possible, so that they can clean and make-up the rooms for the next occupants. This is the worst lodging experience during our 30-day trip in Taiwan.
hostility service4 of us from Malaysia backpacking, from Taipei to Taitung by train. The hostel is just less than 10minutes walk from the train station. We stay in the 4 bed-room.B & B is ok but the services provided by the lady boss and the assistance r lousy!! The lady boss not friendly(sour face) and do not provide any of the basic infor, such as place of interest, place to shop/eat/drinks....Worse still,at 10am next day morning, she reminded u to move/check out by 11am.This is just an insulting!! Will never go back to this hostel.
Far from city centre, but near the Taitung train station, and airport is just a 10 min drive away!NOTE: Do not mix up Taitung with Taichung in Taiwan! Taitung is on the east side of Taiwan's coast whereas Taichung is along the west coast. This hostel is located near Taitung train station. My friend and I booked through 'booking.com'. We chose this hotel as it is nearby the Taitung train station. We got a twin room. Had no issues. It's basically someone's house turned into a budget hotel that feels very home-y. We stayed here for 1 night during our trip in mid-June 2014. The location is quiet even though it is a short walk from the train station. This place is also known as Star 101 Guest House or 星棧101民宿. You can spot the sign at the top of the hotel's building from the train station. There's free wifi in the room, and the rooms are clean and made daily. The toilet facilities are quite old but all in perfect working condition. Beds are comfortable in my opinion but different people have different preferences. However, there's no elevator, so you must bring your luggage up the stairs yourself. It's quite far from the centre of Taitung city so we had to take a bus from the train station to the city centre. Didn't get to try their breakfast as we went out very early in the morning. The staff are pleasant and well-mannered, and helped us arrange for a cab to Taitung airport when we wanted to leave for Taipei. They speak satisfactory english and email correspondence was quite smooth. OVERALL: I would recommend you stay here if you are taking trains to different locations around Taitung County. However, if you want to be near Taitung's city centre, you might be better off staying somewhere else. It's nothing luxurious, but it feels like you're staying in someone's house so to my friend and I, it was pretty comfortable! We are students travelling on a budget, so we don't expect much. TIP: - Request for a room on a lower level so that you don't have to carry your luggage so far up! -Request for a room facing the front of the hotel. The rooms have balconies and the front-facing rooms have a view of an open grassy field (better than facing the buildings at the back).
