Stop 2: Liyu (Carp) Mountain Park

Before heading onto the coastal highway, make your way first to Liyu (Carp) Mountain Park in the center of the city. This hill, about 75 meters above sea level, takes its name from its shape, which resembles a carp lying at rest. Follow the trail at an easy pace as it winds through verdant woodland.

From the observation platform, the streets of Taitung City spread out below, while your view extends all the way to the Pacific. On a clear day, you may even spot Green Island and Orchid Island in the distance.

Heading north along the coastal highway, Jinzun Recreation Area is a stop you should not miss. The area takes the name "Jinzun," or "golden goblet," from the bay's goblet-like shape, and it is also home to Taiwan's only actively forming tombolo.

Sit in one of the pavilions, enjoy the gentle sea breeze, and listen to the steady, soothing sound of the waves. Not only is this a favorite spot for photographers, it is also a perfect place to recharge after a long drive. Before setting off for the next destination, let this broad expanse of blue wash away your fatigue.

Starting every November, the strong northeast monsoon brings high-quality long-period waves, making Jinzun the designated venue for the Taiwan Open of Surfing. Here, you can admire striking marine erosion landscapes shaped from volcanic agglomerate, and it is also one of the places in Taiwan to welcome the first light of day.

Watch the red sun slowly rise above the Pacific horizon, casting golden light across sea stacks and rock potholes. The breathtaking view at that moment is sure to become one of the most unforgettable memories of your journey. If you visit in spring or summer (April to October), don't forget to book the Night Tour of Sanxiantai the evening before, and discover Sanxiantai from a different perspective beneath the stars and the soft murmur of the waves.

Even under bright sunshine, the gentle sea breeze and sparkling water make the ride especially relaxing.

The entire route is flat and gentle, making it ideal for families. Along the way, you can stop at the Marine Environmental Classroom to learn more about the ecology of these blue waters, or ride straight to the harbor at the end and reward yourself with freshly caught seafood.
