Taitung City’s YouBike public bicycle rental system was launched in December 2024 and makes it easier for visitors to explore the city’s attractions. The city’s eastern section has the Seaside Park, while in the north, Forest Park runs alongside the Beinan River. The old railway tracks have been converted into the Mountain–Sea Bikeway, a loop that offers changing panoramas of ocean views, lakes, forests, cultural and creative parks, and tree-lined streets. These routes allow visitors to enjoy Taitung’s scenery in relaxed and unhurried rides.

Stop 1: Seashore Park & Taitung International Landmark

Taitung Seashore Park features expansive lawns and connects to the beach, making it an ideal venue for large-scale events and a perfect spot to stroll or relax by the seaside.

The park’s most iconic landmark is the Taitung International Landmark at its northern edge. Once damaged by a typhoon, the landmark has been restored and reopened with a sleek, modern industrial design, giving it a fresh and striking appearance.

Stop 2: Taitung Forest Park, Pipa Lake & Flowing Lake

Taitung Forest Park is a lush green gem in the heart of the city, known for its rich natural ecology and scenic lakes. Visitors can enjoy cycling here through the park’s wooded trails or alongside the river, which offers picturesque landscapes.

Pipa Lake, located within the park, offers stunning views of both water and mountains—it’s a perfect place to spread out a picnic blanket and enjoy the natural beauty. Flowing Lake, a 1.2-kilometer-long, man-made lake in the park, is a popular venue for swimming, rowing, sailing, and other water sports. Walking paths and viewing platforms around the lake provide excellent opportunities for taking a jog or a stroll.

Stop 3: Taitung Sugar Factory Cultural and Creative Park

With over a century of history, this former sugar factory has been transformed into a cultural and creative park following the end of its sugar manufacturing era. Original factory buildings have been repurposed as studios and exhibition spaces and provide homes for resident artists.

The park preserves traces of its past, including old sections of railway track, locomotives, and sugar-processing machinery. Cyclists on city tours often stop in at the ice cream shop inside the factory’s supermarket, which has become a favorite spot to take a break and cool down.

Stop 4: Mountain-Ocean Bikeway

The urban section of the Mountain-Ocean Bikeway was converted from a decommissioned railway line and offers a quaint and shaded cycling route through the city.
