Baoting is the old name for this area, and the Baoting Art and Culture Center, consisting of 4 large 6-room wooden houses, was once the mayor’s residence and the town hall dormitory during Japanese rule. In 2000,the then county chief magistrate initiated a reservation project by inviting Japanese carpenters to help with renovation and transformed it into an area for various art and culture activities as well as the indigenous handicrafts showroom. The outer walls were torn down so that the space might extend and become one with its neighboring community.
