With a total length of 12 km,it was built along Guanshan Canal and lined with betel nut trees, rice paddies and blooming rapeseeds. The route starts from the Water Park, passes through Guanshan rice fields, water recreation area and the "Hero's Slope," and so on. With different seasonal views,it is one of the most popular destinations for bikers who are attracted by the picturesque scenery of green paddies, golden rapeseed fields and egrets resting upon a water buffalo's back.

    Scenic & Beautiful Local Town

    Traveler rating:5 2018-03

We came here on a cold, windy and wet afternoon (remember to bring along raincoat!), and that probably explains the quietness of the town with very few people out in the streets and bicycle path. But this bicycle path does not have the touristy feel but rather, a very local and welcoming feel to the town. The only disadvantage of this path is that it is some walking distance away from the TRA railway station. The directions to the bicycle path can be found at the railway station. So if you prefer not to walk to the start point, then suggest to rent a bicycle from the shop located right at the railway station itself. Rental fees for the bicycles are comparable to other shops. (we rented an electric bicycle for ease of cycling) The bicycle path is very safe and free from any cars or small vehicles (as compared to Chihshang bicycle path). As it is an encircling loop, it is difficult to get lost since you follow a designated route. Only that when we were there, we were informed by the friendly bicycle shop owner that part of the route is undergoing renovations. Hence, he got his friend to guide us around the part that was undergoing renovations. We had gone to the Chishang bicycle path the day before. But both places offer different kinds of scenery, and so i personally think it is worth travelling to both towns for cycling while you are in Taitung. At Guanshan, the 12km cycling route brought us to different viewing spots beside the rice fields, at the foot of the mountains, up to a vantage point of the entire town. There is also adequate shade and cover here as compared to Chishang, so there are good places to stop over for a while and admire nature without getting a sunburn. Overall, I would recommend Guanshan bicycle path for the simple reasons that the it's a safe and designated route and there are different views to admire and take photographs from different spots of the cycling path.

The right season have the magnificent view

    Traveler rating:5 2017-07

The correct month of visit here are May, Jun, August, September, and October, everywhere fulls with green paddy field and makes magnificent loop tour with bike. On the time near evening, sunshine reflects on the padi field along with some cozy wind, truly wanna to move here leaving all urban agony behind. Bike trial also friendly to children coz most of the trail are separated from cars road. September and October also known as the Lady Lilies season, several parts of Taitung has the Lady Lilies flower spot, Guanshan holds one. Visit here are recommended.

A superb 12km loop of the town

    Traveler rating:5 2017-03

They've thought of everything on this one. The town planners have made the route beautifully scenic through the rice paddies and beetle nut trees, circumnavigating the town. They've also planted enchantingly scented fruit trees and flowers that waft their fragrances as you ride by. There are regular sign posts along the loop telling you how far you've gone, what grade the slopes are at and even how many calories they estimate one burns to do the ride! At one point, you cycle past a mouth watering strawberry farm that simply have to stop and buy the little red treasures from. The only improvement I could suggest would be to put more signs in the town showing people how to get to the start of the loop. Don't rent bikes from the hotel at the train station as they're not in great condition. There are plenty of rental places near the start of the loop. We did the loop to break up our long drive from Ruisui to Kenting. Very relaxing, well worth it!

Great ride even for 60 plus cyclists

    Traveler rating:4 2016-06

Really enjoyed our ride which we did over two days between rain showers. We did it on the no gears hotel bikes. Which was probably not the best for our creaking knees. The bike shop next to the station seems to be closed week days and the others are over a kilometre away at the start of the trail. Superb trail follow the red line. Gradients very well done, we were surprised to find ourselves so high above the town. The redline marking and the exit through the water park is very confused, as is trying to start in a southerly direction. There were probably signs, but not in English. Scenery is stunning and varied so take your time, much is shaded so it is very pleasant.

Well signed and surfaced dedicated cycleway

Not for the pro's who would sniff at its ease but a good family trip around a circular and interesting route around Guanshan, mostly on dedicated cycle paths.
