Formerly,Sanxiantai was a narrow and elongated cape into the ocean. When the neck of the cape was eroded by the tide, the rest of the cape was disconnected with the land and became an island. It is said that three gods, named Li Tieguai,Lu Dongbin and He Xiengu visited here and left three pairs of footprints. The isolated island remained unaffected by human civilization and preserves abundant seashore plant species, and was thus claimed a natural reserve later on. There is also a famous eightarch cross-ocean bridge,a great spot to watch sun rising over the Pacific Ocean.

A good spot to stop and take a strollIn my opinion, the bridge itself is unique in its shape but not that beautiful. The conservation area however is a great place to explore and has a few short hiking trails that criss cross the rugged shoreline and include an old lighthouse, some interesting caves (have a flashlight as it's dark inside) and some lava pools.
Worth seeing on the East Coast National Scenic roadThis was truly a picturesque stop along the scenic road on our road trip from Taitung to Hualien. We spent a couple hours just meandering around the area. You walk across the eight arches bridge which is comprised of steps going up and down each arch. Along the way, stop to marvel at the rock formations and the beautiful ocean waters along the way. I was lucky enough to see a spear fisherman bringing in 2 big fish. The bridge will bring you to the island which you can explore on its trail going around it with great views all around. We did carefully go off a marked dirt trail to explore another corner of the island. It was breathtaking to be so close to the waters that slam against the rocks.
Postcard imageSanxiantai at the northern tip of Taitung County in the town of Chenggong is the terminus for the East Coast tourist bus route. The postcard image of the bridge connecting to the three small peaks over the emerald colored ocean was spectacular although I’m not sure it was worth the three hour round trip from central Taitung. It began to rain and the wind was dangerously strong so we didn’t get to cross the bridge unfortunately.
A beach along with noiceit's good place too go along, because there's no other building and just few people on the beach,I love to listen to the sound of wave,it makes me stay there all afternoon. And there 's good view, the Pacific ocean in the front and mountains in the back,it feel relax and comfortable. In the night, there is good place to watch stars, because there's no light pollution, you can lay on the beach all night, and Sanxiantai is the most east in Taiwan, you can see the first sunrise there.
Hong Kong, China
A must-seeIt is one of the most pretty scenic spots in Taitung. It is super windy but worth spending some times here as well as try walking the simple trail on the other side of the bridge.
