Dengxian Bridge is located on the south side of Dongfu Highway, spanning the deep and steep Mawu River Valley. During the Japanese colonial period, this area was called Shengxian Gorge and had an iron cable suspension bridge for oxcarts, the predecessor of Dengxian Bridge. It was the only major road connecting Taiyuan Basin to the outside. Next to the current Dengxian Bridge Recreation Area is the old Dengxian Bridge, completed in 1953 and now preserved as a scenic bridge. The recreation area features an observation deck, parking lot, guardrails, and trails. Groups of Taiwanese macaques are often seen foraging in the trees and wandering onto the bridge and railings, providing visitors with opportunities for close-up observation.
