Located close to downtown Taitung, Mt. Sige in Beinan Township is about 20 minutes away from Taitung Railway Station. It is the highest spot on the Taitung Plains and close to the Pacific Ocean. The name Sige means “A Place to Grow Betel Nut” in the Beinan indigenous language. It was once a military base during the Japanese colonial period. The breeze at Mt. Sige gently blows away most of the haze and clouds. Therefore, visitors often get great views of spectacular scenery on this leisurely trail. After a visit, it’ll be clear why Mt. Sige is such a popular hiking destination.
