The Liji Badlands at Liji Village, situated by Beinan Creek, looks as desolate as the moon's surface, hence nicknamed "Moon World"". This rare geological landscape was formed when the sediments in deep sea rose to the surface after a series of crustal plate tectonic movements. The mudstones were mainly muds mixed with other crustal materials. Gullies and gorges appeared on the mudstone surface through weathering and water erosion.

No hiking. Roadside pullout only. OkThe badlands themselves cover a large area and look gorgeous. However the “park” is extremely small, really just a platform with some signs. Nowhere to hike at all, which is a shame since the geology is unique and we would have loved to hike around the area. Worth driving by for a look but that’s about it.
beautiful and big badlands how to get thereI come here by bicycle, take mahenghen bld or the road after forest park parallel to beinan river, you arrive at 11 road, turn right and go along 11, there Is a bridge (the second across the river coming from the see), and you see the badlands, if you go along the river without crossing the bridge you have a beautiful view and you arrive to another bridge, if you cross the second bridge you can get a road (under construction) just at the feet of the badlands, go along but you can get the there bridge. If you want see more, cross the 3 bridge and go up 500 m, there are pavillon, some sig es and information about badland and a small patch.
Excellent earth formations.ONE of my highlights on my Taitung area trip.Hard to get to ,unless a local is driving you or your lucky to be on a tour bus going there. The locals call it the moon surface.Unusual earth formation.Real interesting badlands. Some real good photo shoots up here, plus best view of Taitung .
