The name Luye—meaning "deer plains" in Chinese—originated from its past as a wilderness where Formosan sika deer once roamed. However, due to excessive hunting, these beautiful animals gradually disappeared. In an effort to bring the deer back to their native habitat, the Taitung County Government renovated the former sports park and introduced tame, friendly sika deer. Officially opened in 2022, the Luye Formosan Sika Deer Park allows visitors to interact closely with the deer and experience their gentle and charming nature.
