*Shanyuan Bay is open to the public, but visitors are limited due to the pandemic. 

Shanyuan Bay is the longest sandy beach on the east coast of Taiwan. It is significant in terms of cultural and historic importance. It is the indigenous land for three Amis tribes, Jialulan, Citong, and Dulan. In the Amis language, the beach is called “Fudafudak,” which means sparkling. Indigenous activities such as gathering food and festivals take place here. Shanyuan Bay is a key part of Dulan and only 12 kilometers away from downtown Taitung. The short 15 minute drive makes Shanyuan Bay easily accessible. On the way to the beach, visitors pass byXiaoyeliu. Check two attractions off your list when you , swing by Xiaoyeliu before a day at Shanyuan Bay.

Notifation

Shanyuan Bay has a lifeguarded area for swimming that’s cordoned off by orange buoys.  The swimming area is a 100-square meter zone that stretches from the beach into the ocean. Lifeguards are on duty every day from 4/1 to 9/30, 10am to 6pm. There are no lifeguards after 9/30. However, the beach is still open for aquatic recreation without lifeguards.
Fishing, scuba diving and, motorized vessels are prohibited within the swimming Businesses providing aquatic recreation classes and tours are prohibited from operating at Shanyuan Bay. Swimming, playing in the water, SUP, kayaking, surfing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, and other non-motorized water sports are all allowed.
