    A pleasant stay

    Traveler rating:4 2016-12

It is fortunate that we can reserve this room as I changed idea and found the room in city while other rooms are fully occupied on the last day of 2016. The owner, Mr. and Mrs. Huang, were very nice and brought us to the famous Zhiben hot spring bath and their Sunday worship. It is situated close to the Taitung Forest Park, which was devastated by typhoons. The owner lend for free two bicycles to us to travel the park. You can take the city bus from the Park, or walk to the downtown for 10-15 mins. The room is basically clean and spacious, but found two cockroaches when entering the room. I deducted one point. Breakfast is only bread, fruit and tea, which I am OK with it.

    Friendly and quiet.

I found this place through a friend of the owner I met at the railway station, sounds a bit suss I know but it was genuine. It was a very quiet time for the hostels of the area so my unexpected arrival had a bit of a rush start, it looked like I'd be the only guest until someone turned up later on. Located not far from the Forest Park entrance it is out of the main part of Taitung but still only a 10-15 walk so close by but nice and quiet at the same time. Tracey the owner was good and knowledgeable about what to do nearby but as much as I appreciate that I think 1 hour of hearing about a week's worth of possible activities when I only have 2 nights is a bit much. The free breakfast was simply bread, nutella, an apple and a coffee but still filled the gap. The only other thing that was a concern that although it was clean there were a lot of mosquitoes in the room biting me as I tried to get comfortable on the hard mattress. It wasn't a bad place, just lacking in a few areas but I'd probably stay somewhere else next time.

In early September 2015, I had the pleasure of staying at Angels Fish Hostel. The hostel is located a few minutes walking distance from the Forest Park Bus Station, which takes you to the Taitung train station as well as further up the east coast. I was a lone traveler and felt very safe and comfortable here. At the time, I was the only guest in the hostel, and the staff was very kind and helpful despite that being the case. The owner even helped me secure accommodation on Green Island at a moment's notice with some of the nicest Taiwanese people I have ever met. I wish I knew the name of their hostel on Green Island because they were so kind to me as well! I don't speak Chinese or Taiwanese, and this was not a problem at all. The owner speaks English and those of the staff who had basic proficiency still went out of their way to help me and to understand my needs. The hostel is basic, nothing fancy, but the murals on the walls are cute and it is very, very clean. Breakfast is also simple but at least it's included. You can rent a bike for free here as well, which is a great way to explore Taitung. The hostel is located a few minutes away by bike from the art museum, and about fifteen minutes away from the city center. It's very near the Forest Park. I enjoyed my stay here and in the serene city of Taitung.

Quiet cozy hostel you can feel at home

    Traveler rating:5 2015-10

The hostel is located in a quiet area of Taitung within few hundred meter walk to the Forrest Park Bus station where buses arrive from the train station or leave to the east coast. It is a alone standing house with the top floor being the hostel. The communual areas are nicely decorated with fish and everything needed is convienentily available like equiped kitchen, washing machine, fridge, Wifi ...The hosts Tracy and Paul take large effort to advice in activities in the area and a lot of information is on display. It is very helpful to understand this very different part of Taiwan which is much more relaxed. Bicycle rental is around the corner, the daily nightmarket in about 15 minutes walking distance to town center.
