At present, 104 species of birds included in 38 families are found all over the territory of Taitung, such as Formosan bulbul, Plumbeous water redstart, Maroon oriole, Black-browed barbet, Common tern, and etc. In addition, there are also 24 species of precious protected animals, such as Formosan black bear, Formosan macaca, Formosan Gem-faced Civet, Sus scrofa taivanus, and etc., supporting a wide range of biological diversity of Taitung. These wild animals still can be seen in the forests.

Situated between the steep mountains and serene ocean, Taitung support a wide range of plants. These diverse and precious plant species are not only of educational values but also of high academic research values.
Plants in the forest area include the species belonging to tropical rain forest and sub-tropical rain forest. The ample and diverse plant species ranging from arbor, bush to herbaceous plant based on the different elevations from the sea level.
In the coastal area, the coral plants are the major species because of the nature of the soils. Among these, Reef pemphis, Beach morning glory, and etc., are the most representative and precious. The diversity of the coastal flora with its peculiar figure becomes the spectacular natural resources in education.

With steams and creeks running through the mountains and the long-stretching coastline, Taitung has abundant aquatic creatures, such as upstream fish and precious planktons, which have long been the treasured property of Taitung.
At present, the freshwater fish found is included in no less than 29 species. As for sea creatures, rich and diverse tropical fish species and other planktons have truly profiled this tropical county.
