Eastern Taiwan is situated where the Euroasia Plate collides with the Pacific
Philippine Plate. The collision against each other plate during the past
million years had caused many times of the plate movements to create the unique
ecology and scenery of Taitung. Canyons, waterfalls brooks, rocky coasts,
offshore islands, coral reefs, eroded terrain, and etc., demonstrate well the effect
of the great nature.

The
eastern seashore of Taitung is especially known for its rocky coasts, sand
beaches and coral reefs. Among these, Sanhsientai and Hsiaoyeliu are the most
famous and breath-taking scenic spots where the eroded terrain is observable at
a glance. Moreover, the rarely seen eroded caves and rocks show the evidence of
land rising phenomenon in Geology.
