The
whole Taitung county, situated south to the Tropical cancer, has a tropical
climate. Influenced by the Black Stream, the average temperature of Taitung is
higher than that of the west, and due to the obstruction of the Central Range and the East Coastal Range, lowlands have higher temperature compared with that
of the mountains and hills. The highest yearly average temperature occurs in
July at 28.7 deg C while the lowest is in January at 19.2 deg C. If monthly
average temperature over 22 deg C is defined as Summer season, the Summer
season in lowlands and offshore islands of Taitung can be 8 months long (from
April to November), which making Taitung a pleasant place to visit all year
round.
